The IB Design Technology course is an exciting opportunity for students to explore creative problem-solving through design and technology. Part of the IB Diploma’s Group 4 (Sciences), this course blends hands-on projects with theory, perfect for aspiring engineers, designers, or innovators. Available at Standard Level or Higher Level, it teaches the design cycle—researching, prototyping, testing, and refining solutions for real-world challenges like sustainable products or smart devices.
Learn key design principles through engaging lessons and case studies:
Core (Standard Level & Higher Level): Human factors, sustainability, material lifecycles, modeling, innovation, and classic design.
Higher Level Extensions: User-centered design, commercial production, and market strategies.
The MDP (40% of your grade) is an independent project where you tackle a real-world problem, creating a solution like an eco-friendly gadget or accessible tool. Using the design cycle, you’ll research, prototype, test, and document your work.
Standard Level focuses on core skills; Higher Level adds commercial viability. This portfolio piece is ideal for university or job applications.
Join this dynamic course to spark your creativity and shape a sustainable future. Contact Mr Dave Hopley (dave.hopley@wis.edu.hk) for details.
